Five Guys Burgers and Fries will open at 11 a.m. on Friday at 1191 S.W. Wanamaker, suite B.

General manager Zach Lang said the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, other than Christmas Eve, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.. and Day, when the store will be closed.

“I know Topeka’s really excited,” Lang said.

Lang said he has helped run other Five Guys locations in Lawrence, Kansas City and St. Joseph, Mo., and has been asked at each store when Topeka would be the next to get one of the locations.

With the burger joint being the newest location to open in the Crosswinds Commons, following Academy Sports and Outdoors, Sleep Number and Pie Five. Lang said he and the staff are excited to be neighbors with these other companies.

“I’ve been joking that you can come in and get a burger and then go sleep on a mattress,” he said.

The Topeka location will be the only store out of all of the Kansas and Missouri locations that will offer milkshakes, which are customizable, with peanut butter, cherries and even bacon available as mix-ins. Lang said he was excited to be the first to offer the sweet treats.

Lang said around 45 people have been hired for the new restaurant. There is no freezer, he said, which lets the customers know there is an emphasis on fresh, never frozen, ingredients.

“I think we’ve got a good crew,” he said.
