After more than two decades in business, chances are pretty good that Pepe & Chela’s has filled your belly at least once.
But that was probably lunch or dinner. Now Pepe & Chela’s is entering a new world with its Casa De Café, or Coffee House. The Coffee House launched this week with a soft opening. Want to know more? Here are the details:
HOURS: Open 6:30-10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Although the coffee shop takes a short break before the restaurant opens for lunch at 11 a.m., you can get an espresso drink or something off the breakfast menu any time of day.
BREADS: You’ll find the typical muffins and bagels you’re used to seeing at coffee shops, but you’ll also find Pan Mexicano (Mexican bread) made fresh daily. Cost: $1.75.
BURRITOS: Pepe & Chela’s has made the breakfast burritos for years when catering. Owner Olga Smith said they’ve always been popular, but they’ve never been on the regular menu — until now. And since Pepe & Chela’s kitchen staff starts work early in the mornings to prepare made-from-scratch dishes for lunch, they’re able to make the burritos as orders come. There are five burrito options from a vegetarian option to one filled with chorizo, egg and cheese, featuring Pepe & Chela’s own chorizo, or sausage. Prices range from $2.35 to $2.95.
THE COFFEE: Pepe & Chela’s is serving PT’s coffee, and its baristas have undergone two days of training with PT’s. So they can make all the specialty coffee drinks. Plus, they’ve got hot chocolate or chocolate Mexicano. Ask about punch cards.
