Located on the north side of Lake Shawnee, Applewood BBQ & Bistro is a locally owned restaurant that features barbeque classics including ribs and pulled pork sandwiches, as well as new favorites such as smoked chicken quesadillas, grilled chipotle burgers and smoked chicken wings.

We checked this place out today 3-14-10, and we were quite happy with the food, service, and atmosphere. We were waited on immediately upon arrival and had our food in 10-15 minutes. We will definitely go back again.
Poor Service,Good Food....Get it carryout.

My family went in last night to give this place a try. Well lets just say that the service was bad and that is giving it some. It took over 10 mins for someone to come over to the table. We should had left then becasue it did not get any better. We gave them our drink order that was just about the last time we got help other than to bring out the cardboard oh I mean food and then to get the money for the meal. Best thing I can say is its nice that business are willing to set up shop around the lake.

The service is slow!?! Horror of horrors. When eating out in Topeka I've come to expect slow service. Especially in locally owned places. I know it's a pain not to get fast service, but I'll put up with if the food's good. And the food is good!!!
Never had a bad meal here. The sandwiches are great, the salads are great, the ribs are great, the chicken is great, the fries are killer.
Worth the trip out east.

The service was poor and that is giving it some, getting refills was like getting water from sand. Now for the food or sawdust. The BBQ was dry and had no flavor, the cooks need to get out and go to a BBQ cook off and get some hints from the cooks or any back yard cook. Lets just say a McRib more flavor and is closer to real BBQ. And for the person that thinks this is the probably the best in the state get out more! This place is a waste of time and money. And this based on more than one visit. The first time was just the same but they were just open so I was giving that to them, but the second time was the same and our party got different things than last time.

the food at applewoods is probably the best in the state of kansas for bbq have not found any better ... and yes i do eat there often.

We checked this place out a few days ago, and we were quite happy with the food, service, and atmosphere. This is a nice new addition to the area, and we will go back soon.
