Visit one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Cuisine -- an award bestowed on this classic Topeka burger drive in by the Kansas Sampler Foundation in June 2009.

Bobo's has been a Topeka tradition since 1948 and was featured on the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" in 2008. It is famous for its handmade apple pies -- served by the slice or whole pie -- and its onion rings, which also are made fresh every day. Car hops take your order and bring your food to your car.

Anyone who has lived in Topeka very long knows about Bobo's. Most have eaten there at one time or another. And when people move away and come back to visit, many just have to have a burger at Bobo's. (Updated 6.25.09)

I always go when I am in Topeka. There were once 2 locations. The pies were a staple at funerals when I was growing up. If anyone died, you called Bobo's to order pies. I understand why "newcomers" don't get it, but give it a go with a double burger and the onion rings!

Not that Good at all- I guess they lost their magic from the past

I moved to Topeka a few months back. My wife is a native Topekan and told me we have to go to Bobo's. So, we went there. The food left a lot to be desired and the service was okay. So, we tried it again about a week later thinking maybe it was just an "off" day. But, it was actually even worse. We don't go there anymore. Too many other places that are so much better. Cook's Grill on Gage actually has a much better burger and onion rings. Their service is always good. Eat at Cook's about once a week. Great Food, Great Prices and Great Service.
I don't recommend Bobo's at all.

Pretty tasty!

So where else can you find a drive in like this? I mean, this is some better service considering you don't have to speak into those speakers like they have at Sonic at the top of your lungs. I personally like to go inside. It's a bit small, and they should make it bigger. However the burgers and onion rings are delicious! My family (of 3) ate there including dessert for under $20!! Can't beat that!

Bobo's retains an atmosphere long lost in American culture. If you are looking to break away from the endless chains and retro places, Bobo's is authentic. This place really hops at night, with even a few classic cars showing up. The service is fantastic, all brought to your car. It's been a long time since any place I have went to places a tray on the window. As far as the food - great burger joint. If you are like me (that is, a simple eater) then you won't be disappointed with the selection. I had a classic double cheeseburger, fries, and of course, apple pie. Don't compare this food with restaurant quality, it's not. It's diner quality, at its best. A burger should come in a wrapper, not on a plate with a knife and fork. Go and enjoy!

Bobo's is a classic. Their burgers, pork tenders, fries and onion rings are excellent. When I was there on Friday, it was a full house, but everyone was served quickly, and with a smile. The burger was delicious, and the onion rings are a must. There was one person who came in just to buy a pie. Well worth their reasonably priced foods,

Jeff

Tuned in to see Bobo's on Food Network. They have an employee who is from England...adds a touch of class to this place which is "jolly good, old chap."

It's a Classic

I won't say it is the absolute best hamburger ever, but it is pretty darn good. And save room for the pie!

The burgers are definitely not the best in town. If you want to dine in a retro restaurant with vinyl pink booths, just go for the pie.

Hands-down the best burger in town....or even in several

I love a good cheeseburger just like every other warm-blooded American, but Bobo's double cheeseburger is in a league of its own.

I absolutely agree with the comment at the bottom. I wish their were more Bobo's. It's not every day a town can claim it has a burger stop that's been covered on national TV. They've even been featured on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" - and for good reason.

Pros
* Bar-none, the best burger in town...or several towns
* Nostalgic atmsophere

Cons
* They're only in Topeka
* Not a lot of seating inside, but on the other hand, that's part of its charm.

Apple pie a la mode!

I love finishing my cheeseburger and fries meal with a slice of apple pie a la mode. I am very happy that they did switch to a non smoking restaurant. Just watch your step and have a seat at the counter, like the old days.

The only thing wrong with Bobo's is that there isn't one on every corner.
