This place is one of the top BBQ places I've ever eaten. Love the cornbread and beans and all their meats have been great. I've never had the burned ends and will have to try them next time. As far as wait staff it can be hit and miss but generally never had much problem. However, I will assume it depends on the times a person goes in.

Best BBQ in Topeka? Best BBQ in the world!

Im a big fan of this place and have been for years and years. The BBQ is so much better than anything else in town, and is on the same level as the best BBQ joints around the country Ive eaten at when I travel for business.

When out of towners come here I always treat them to dinner at Boss Hawgs and invariably they rave about the place and always request a trip to Boss Hawgs on their return visits.

This place is a Topeka gem. If you havent tried it you owe yourself a visit.

Its ok

Boss Hawg's is ok. It's just everyday run of the mill BBQ. More hype than flavor.

As a long time fan, we were pleased to see some new items on the menu. The Beast Feast was amazing, so much food we had to get a bigger table! Smoked Jalapeno Sausage, Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken, and Burnt Ends all were perfect. The service is much better, (love the new TV's in the dining room), if you are a BBQ fan this place is a must!

I love this place! Usually.

Today Boss Hawgs hosted a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center. The place was packed! I love their food. I was so disappointed with them today though. I'm sure they expected to be busy and although they had more staff than usual they just couldn't keep up. I was also disappointed that the owners didn't make an appearance. It just seemed poorly managed. People were consistantly in there for over an hour before their food arrived at their table although there wasn't a line at the door. Just dissapointed.

Easily Topeka's Best

I've eaten at every single Bar-B-Que in Topeka, and Boss Hawg's is easily the best, none of the others even come close. There ribs have thick layers of perfectly smoked meat on them and other places sell you bones with a thin covering of meat that you have to gnaw on just to get a little string of tough jerky. Boss Hawg's gives these huge portions and we always leave with at least one styrofoam box full of leftoevers. It's weird for a Bar-B-Que, but they also have the best flour nachos I've ever eaten anywhere.

After all these years of craving on their babyback ribs and pulled pork, I was curious about trying something new called Burned Ends. It didn't sound like something I would like but everyone at work was talking about it so I gave it a try. I've been a Hawg fan since their first few weeks in business, and I hafta say I never thought anything would ever top their babyback ribs. But they've done it this time...the burned ends are better than anything else on the menu. If you haven't tried these things, you gotta.

Cornbread is ok , the BBQ meat is just so-so

What comes out of the kitchen is not nearly as tasty as it once was. It really lacks the BBQ flavor of years gone by. Meat portions are small. If you really love good BBQ you won't find it here anymore.
Good cornbread though.

I am a southerner. Born and raised in Alabama and lived in Florida for two decades. I recently moved to Topeka to live with my lovely bride. She raved about this place. So, as a Southerner, I had to see if this BBQ was any good. I got pork sandwich with slaw on it. Typical in the South. Oh my goodness, it was great. The BBQ beans really good. I really enjoy it. I do have to agree about service though. The tend to be very slow getting to you. I recently ate there on a Saturday and there were only three tables with people at them. It took almost 15 minutes for someone to come to my table. Then, I had to wait almost that long to get my ticket after I finished. Great BBQ,mediocre service.

The BBQ is always good as with the cornbread but the waiters are not. I don't know if they are short on help all the time or if the help just doesn't care but have fun getting anything from them. On more than one occasion I have came in and went upstairs and had to wait over 10 minutes before anybody even came over and took our order, even with other people already upstairs!

Good, but not like it used to be

Definitely the best BBQ in town, but it seems to have dropped off recently. The cornbread is, of course, the best, but they seem stingier with it, I’ve had a lot of orders messed up and their servers seem to be perpetually rushed, even when it’s not crowded (too many tables per server, perhaps?). Not sure what’s changed but something seems wrong.

Boss Hawg's is STILL cranking out the best bbq in Topeka. The legacy of Hank Lumpkin lives on in delicious, tender bbq with some of the tastiest baked beans in the country. Keep horrifying the vegetarians!

It was better when the original owner was still alive

The last time we went there, we were very disappointed. The food (ribs) and sevice were not good at all. It used to be better than this...back when the original owner was still living.

Great Cornbread ....and BBQ too!

"Topeka Eater" you hit the nail on the head. Yes their BBQ is great and you can customize it to your exact taste with all of their signature sauces within arm's reach, but I crave their cornbread. For those of you that like sweet cornbread, this place is for you. I have yet to leave there without asking for some of it to go....ever.

I know everyone loves the BBQ and I do too. I just can't get enough of the cornbread. I really like how the window seals are full of different BBQ sauces. It must have taken alot of time to collect all those.

They do have the best ribs in town. I only wish they sliced their brisket instead of chopping it, but that's just me.

Really good BBQ, esp. the ribs. Can get a little pricey, but Double Your Dollar has online gift certificates.

Everything I've had there has been good. Especially like Juan's Chimichanga and the flour tortillas with queso.
