Jet-A-Way Café

Forbes Field Airport Terminal, Topeka

The Jet-A-Way Café, located just off the runway at Forbes Field, provides an up-close view of action at the airport while also serving barbeque in a diner-like setting. The food is so good and convenient that some pilots make a point of fueling up at Forbes just so they can eat there, too. The Jet-A-Way Café also welcomes those who work at Forbes Field as well as visitors who want to grab a bite to eat while watching planes take off and land.
The food includes barbecue ribs, pulled pork, brisket and turkey. But if you’re craving something you don’t see on the menu, just ask. The cooks are happy to make what you want, including a variety of breakfast items.
Café hours may vary. If, for example, a later flight is expected to arrive, the café may stay open late.

Jimmy John's

Jimmy John's is a gourmet sandwich restaurant. They specialize in "freaky fast" subs.

Jimmy John's is named for Jimmy John Liautaud, who was 19 when he started selling sandwiches he created with his homemade bread and winning awards in cooking contests. The company is headquartered in Champaign, Ill., and has nearly 700 restaurants nationwide.

Juice Stop

5327 S.W. 21st St., Topeka

Juice Stop will blend a filling smoothie from its menu of fresh fruit juices. Use sherbet for the base or fat-free frozen yogurts. Feel free to add or substitute your favorite fruit for the menu description of the drink of your choosing. Add a pretzel to your order to make a mini-meal that will hold you over or for a short snack on the go.

Juli's Coffee and Bistro

110 S.E. 8th, Topeka

Juli's Coffee and Bistro, located in Gage Village shopping center at Huntoon and Gage, opened in May 2011. Featuring a long list of drip, espresso and gourmet coffee drinks, Juli's also has a menu loaded with tasty sandwiches, wraps and salads. In the morning, look for biscuits & gravy, breakfast burritos and tacos as well as assorted Danish.

With coffee beans from Kansas City's Roasterie and Topeka's Blue Jazz, owner Juli Cuthbertson has owned coffee shops in Rossville, Junction City and Wamego before opening up her new cafe in Topeka.

In April 2014, Juli's moved from the Huntoon and Gage location to downtown.

Lake Shawnee Golf Course

4141 S.E. East Edge Road, Topeka

Stop at the snack bar after rounding the first nine holes and munch on a burger, hot dog, brat or sandwich. The snack bar serves up beer, mixed drinks and Gatorade. The patio at the clubhouse provides a good spot to kick back and look at the wooded area. The nearby banquet room holds about 80 people and is a popular spot for golf tournaments and the occasional wedding; call for information about reservations. Larry's Shortstop

3834 S. Topeka Ave., Topeka

Larry's Short Stop will fuel your belly while you fill your gas tank. In 1985, this gas station started selling chicken and has expanded its menu over the years. Days start off with a variety of breakfast options, from the popular biscuits and gravy to eggs. Later, there are cheeseburgers and french fries as well as meatloaf dinners, chicken and noodles, and beef and noodles. The shop has seating for 25 people, but most people take their orders to go. Lazio's Coffee Bar & Roasterie

Lazy Toad Restaurant, Sports Bar & Lounge

5331 SW 22nd Place, Topeka

Todd Howell's exciting new sports bar & restaurant opened in the west end of Fairlawn Plaza in April 2011. Howell, a partner in Bullfrog's Live for nine years, has created a spectacular new place that holds more than 300 people and has 38 50-inch flat screen TVS as well as a 10-foot HD projector TV. On the weekends Lazy Toad will have live music.

The restaurant features home style food with favorites such as fried chicken and meatloaf as well as New York-style pizza as well as upscale bar food.

Look for the addition of an outdoor patio with seating of about 100.
