Millennium Café at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

1515 S.W. 10th St., Topeka

Millennium Café opened in 2001 with the opening of the new Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, designed by internationally-known architect Michael Graves. The cafe offers library workers and visitors a quick, casual and usually quiet place to sit and enjoy a bite to eat or relax with a cup of coffee. It caters inside the library, and links from the library's Web site at www.tscpl.org will bring you more information about the cafe, including the week's menu. The menu includes some made-from-scratch soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche and seasonal features. The cafe opens at 8:15 a.m. weekdays. (Updated 7.26.10)



Nib's House of Coffee

Since 2003, Nib's has offered gourmet coffees and good service in a bright family-owned atmosphere in North Topeka. Owners Nichole and Brady Yingling are north-city natives and opened the spot when they were barely out of high school. (12/12)



Pancho's

3506 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka

Founded in 2005 in Kansas City, Pancho's is a 24/7 Mexican restaurant known for giant burritos. The Topeka restaurant, which opened in Dec. 2011, focuses on using fresh ingredients to prepare made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine.

The Topeka location is the sixth Pancho's to open and features burritos, fajitas, tortas, tostadas, tamales, enchiladas, and tacos as well as combination platters and breakfast burritos.



Panera Bread

1421 S.W. Wanamaker, Topeka

This bakery and bistro offers a comfortable spot to meet with friends or enjoy free Wi-Fi Internet access. Coffee and espresso drinks are available along with soups, salads, paninis and sandwiches that feature Panera's fresh-baked breads. The long menu is filled with a wide array of options.

The Topeka location in this national chain opened in 2000 and has been a repeat "Best of Topeka" winner.

Call and fax-in orders are accepted with no minimum purchase required. Orders can usually be ready within 20 to 30 minutes, but the staff can't guarantee it will be done at a specific time.



Pepe & Chela's

1001 S.W. Tyler, Topeka

The Aliva family has been feeding Topekans since 1986. Everything is made fresh daily, from the chips to the chile rellenos -- with food made from both Avila family recipes and other dishes created to entice customers.

In May 2009, the restaurant completed a new outdoor patio, adding 26 seats where diners can enjoy the weather on nice days and evenings. The patio features outdoor music and lights.



Perkins Restaurant & Bakery

1720 SW Wanamaker, Topeka

Perkins is a national chain that operates one location in Topeka serving home-style American food. Hours run early to late, and the folks at Perkins serve the entire menu all day long including breakfast.

Perkins offers fresh-baked goods, from muffins to pies. Try them inside the restaurant or take them to go.

When available, the party room can be reserved in advance for a group.

Starting in April, the restaurant stays open until midnight Sunday through Thursday. Those summer hours continue to October.



Petro Deli

3603 NW 46th Street, Topeka

This gas station convenience store fills up North Topeka with fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and plenty of other menu choices. Petro Deli favorites include the super-popular gizzards, livers and chicken – all fried in a delicious batter bound to make you want more. The place also serves corndogs, egg rolls, breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. Most folks grab their food and go, but some – including regulars and travelers – dine at one of the four tables. Food is served from about 7 a.m. until 9 or 10 p.m. (Updated 3/20/09)
