Steak 'N Shake

Since 2000, Steak 'N Shake has been offering customers good steakburgers and milkshakes, either at the drive-through or brought to your table inside the restaurant. It is open 24 hours a day on Fridays and Saturdays, except on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Smoking is allowed from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. (Updated 2/25/09)



Tailgators Sports Pub and Grub

2025 SW Urish Rd., Topeka

Tailgators Sports Pub and Grub isn't your typical bar. This smoke-free environment has a dozen 42-inch plasma TVs and a 100-by-50-inch projection TV in the main bar.

An enclosed patio is available for patrons who want to smoke, with four 32-inch plasma TVs and room for 35 to 40 customers.

There are drink and food specials every day and Tailgators has a full menu that includes smoked ribs, brisket, pork and chicken, as well as a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, hamburgers and barbecue. (Updated 2/23/09)



The 20's West

Featuring excellent service, great food and a friendly atmosphere, The 20's West replicates much of the original 20's (see separate listing) but with food -- mostly typical bar stuff. The Burger Stand

1601 S.W. Lane, Topeka

The Burger Stand opened on Sept. 8, 2011.

Robert Krause started one of Topeka's trendiest eateries — New City Cafe — and now his newest creation, The Burger Stand, is open Topeka's College Hill district.

With gourmet burgers and fries — including delectable truffle fries — The Burger Stand will raise the ante on the gourmet burger market in Topeka. According to Krause, besides great food, The Burger Stand will feature two bars as well as pool and ping pong tables.

The Burger Stand boasts seating for 270 inside with room for another 40-50 on the outdoor patio.

In addition to great food, they also have more than a dozen craft beers on tap.



The Dugout

1545 Fairlawn Road, Topeka

Enjoy sports -- especially NASCAR Sundays -- on one of the Dugout's 11 TVs. The Dugout boasts of having the best cheeseburgers in town -- just $3 for a half-pound cheeseburger on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Daily drink and food specials.



The Sand Trap at Western Hills Golf Club

8533 SW 21st, Topeka

You won’t mind landing in this Sand Trap – situated at the Western Hills golf course. This sports bar and grill keeps patrons fueled from sunup to sundown with burgers, french fries, chicken, sandwiches and other sports bar staples. The Shack

Located across from the Lake Shawnee Dam, The Shack has been serving up some of Topeka's tastiest burgers for years, using fresh beef that they grind each day.

There is plenty to do at The Shack besides eating, with lots of cold beverages available as well as pool tables and video games. The Shack also has some of the nicest waitresses and bartenders in town.

The Southern Star Cafe

Coming in to replace the longtime South Topeka staple Pat's Pig, The Southern Star Cafe opened in late summer 2014. Offering barbecue, burgers and more barbecue, Southern Star offers a mobile kitchen and catering.



Townsite Café

120 S.E. 6th St., Topeka

Owner Doug Petrie has been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years. He owns and operates the wildly successful Millennium Café at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library as well as Peach Tree Catering.

His latest venture, Townsite Café, which opened in April 2012, is a spiffy breakfast and lunch spot inside Townsite Plaza at S.W. 6th and Kansas.

Once you find your way to Townsite Café you won't have any problem finding your way back. With daily specials that will make your mouth water to a variety of fresh and delicious salads to sandwiches and wraps to a vegetarian menu to soups and chili, Petrie is proving that getting a quick bite to eat can be a deliciously tasty experience at a reasonable price.



Weller’s Grill & Bar

222 N.W. Independence, Topeka

Built as North Topeka’s only sports grill and bar, Weller’s TV sets offer 416 inches of viewing area. Owners, Jason Jennings and Richard Jennings have designed the place so there is “no bad seat in the house.”

Weller’s offers 10 beer selections on tap including micro-brews and a menu that includes steak, seafood, pasta, burgers and appetizers. Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight seven days a week.
