Falling Water Grille and Lounge

1717 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka

This small, upscale restaurant with about 25 tables can be found in the Capitol Plaza Hotel, featuring an open-air atmosphere where you can watch the kitchen crew work its magic. A breakfast and lunch buffet compliment the restaurant's eclectic menu. The customers range from hotel guests to Topeka's movers and shakers.

Breakfast is served from 6 - 11 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and dinner from 4 - 10 p.m.

Next to the restaurant, the open-air Water’s Edge Lounge serves from 2-10 p.m Monday through Friday and 2-11 p.m. on weekends. It features delicious appetizers as well as perhaps the best beverage selection in Topeka, including an upscale wine list, Bella Verde vodka and Stella Artois beer on tap to name a few. Hazel Hill Chocolate Traditions

724 S. Kansas, Topeka

Hazel Hill offers a mouth-watering display of melt-in-your mouth, delectable sweets. The goodies don’t come cheap, but they are a perfect example of the phrase “you get what you pay for.” Hazel Hill offers fancy treats, like champagne truffles, but it also makes old favorites like the caramel apple seem brand new.

Rest in a cushy chair, breathe in the chocolate aroma and watch the scene. Enjoy a cup of coffee and take advantage of free wireless Internet.

Everything is made in the old downtown storefront. Call for information about taking a tour, and watch Hazel Hill make its own fudge, truffles, turtles and other sweets. The shop opened March 17, 2006, and now ships its goodies throughout the country.

Hazel Hill also has a second location in Manhattan.



Ice & Olives

3627 S.E. 29th St., Topeka

Ice & Olives brings the spirit of Dean & DeLuca to Topeka with their gourmet grocery store at S.E. 29th and Croco Rd. Besides an extensive selection of upscale grocery items, Ice & Olives also sells meat and cheese trays as well as freshly made deli sandwiches featuring secret herbs and sauces in a California-style cuisine.

The store offers pasta, sauces, dips, cheeses and olives, many imported from Europe.

Take your food to go, or stop in at the neighboring coffee shop, The Java Bar. The Java Bar shares the same owner and customers are welcome to pause there to enjoy their gourmet sandwiches. Look for live music most Saturday nights, when the deli stays open an extra hour.(Updated 3.19.10)



RowHouse Restaurant and Catering

515 S.W. Van Buren, Topeka

RowHouse offers white-linen fine dining with a stellar menu to match its elegant and cozy atmosphere. The menu changes regularly, featuring foods from Morroco, Italy, Thailand and Argentina. The location itself is a draw -- an 1876 rowhouse that has received preservation kudos for its renovation. For reservations, call (785) 235-1700.

The RowHouse also offers private parties Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings and can do private lunches Monday through Friday. Call for more information.

Downstairs, the RowHouse has opened a sophisticated bar, which you enter through red velvet curtains. Below the Row has space for 12, making it a cozy spot for drinks for two or guests waiting for tables at the upscale restaurant above. Like the rest of the RowHouse, the bar retains the old home's charm with an old fireplace, but it mixes in a contemporary, cool vibe. It's a great spot for a glass of fine wine.
