Best Mexican food around! Margaritas can't be beat, although it is true that their busiest times are Tue/Thur dinner due to the 99 cent margarita. Wait staff is amazing, even during those times. ANYONE will help you, unlike other restaurants that won't help each others tables, since they don't get your tip. Extremely friendly. Love this place, we go at least weekly, and more often!

I used to love coming to El Mezcal, but lately I've been seeking other options. My in-laws were in town and we all went here to eat. It was a 99 cent margarita night, which I do my best to avoid due to how packed and loud the evening can be. I was incredibly embarrassed because the table closest to us was very loud (in an already loud environment) and discussing very inappropriate topics. I am not a prude, but I don't really want to hear every single detail about your lives.
I could have dealt with this, but their waiter was serving our section as well. He did at one point tell the table they were being too loud, but afterwards seemed to avoid our entire section just so he didn't have to deal with kicking them out.
On top of that, another waiter then brought each of the individuals an additional three margaritas each at once. They already had a stack of cups. I was incredibly uncomfortable with this as it was already late, they were clearly rather drunk already, and at least one of them was going to be driving home.
This is one of the many tales about the poor service they now have. I used to love eating here, but I guess they're successful enough that they don't have to worry about basic things such as service anymore. It's a shame, but they are other options in Topeka.
Horrid

After a couple of visits to this establishment I cannot help but cringe every time I drive by. But, it is a great place for minors to go drink! No ID, No Problem!

I love El Mezcal!!! They have the best Mexican food in Topeka, by far. Try out their Fajitas Jalisco if you are looking for a great dish to try. Their white cheese is also amazing! Their lunch specials are fantastically priced.
I am suprised that some reviews rate them low on service. I have found their service to be outstanding. While in most restaurants you have one waiter, at El Mezcal whoever sees you have a need will stop to accomodate.
It gets very busy on Thursday nights with the 99 cent margaritas, but believe me their margaritas are amazing. It is easy to see why half of Topeka heads to El Mezcal after work on Thursdays.
El Mezcal not my favorite

El Mezcal is not my favorite restaurant. The service is very poor. My husband was going to work here several years ago, and he found out the waiters don't get to keep their tips! The waiters at El Mezcal are very stuck-up. We go to El Charro down the street. The owner is very nice, food is excellent with great prices. And yes, the owner generally waits on his own customers...don't see that at El Mezcal!
Good Food but just fair service.

This used to be our favorite Mexican Restaurant but has dropped down on our list due to the service.
We like the food very much. It is usually hot and flavored just the way we like it. The salsa is very good but the chips are usually grease soaked. I usually bring my own chips in a baggie just so I don't have to eat all the grease, but that's just me.
Like most of the Mexican Restaurants in Topeka I would like to see them give the servers some english lessons. I get very tired of trying to make a change to my order and no one understands me.
Disappointed too

I have been coming here for years, and have to agree that the service is down.. It always seems like the staff is too caught up in the "party crowd" of $1 margarita days.
That said.. I do love their $1 margaritas.
Disappointed lately

El Mezcal was my favorite place to go. About the last 4 months the service has really declined. I tried out ElCharro right down the street and found the food, service, and quaint atmosphere to be wonderful. The owners usually wait/serve their own customers and their margaritas are some of the best!

The parking lot is very full on 99 cent margarita night. The salsa and chips are wonderful. Keep up the good food.
