Jose Pepper's

The Jose Pepper's franchise originated in the Kansas City area, and specializes in fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine.

CEO Tom Hance said Jose Pepper’s strives to provide a fun, extremely casual dining experience. “It’s a very warm atmosphere,” he said. “It’s festive with lots of bright colors – reds, greens, oranges and yellows.”

The restaurant is well known for its Espinaca Con Queso – a blend of jalapeno cheese, onions, ripe tomatoes and a touch of spinach, served with hot tortilla chips. There are also lots of child-friendly amenities including balloons, coloring books and crayons and a kids menu, making it a popular destination for families on weeknights and weekends.



Juli's Coffee and Bistro

110 S.E. 8th, Topeka

Juli's Coffee and Bistro, located in Gage Village shopping center at Huntoon and Gage, opened in May 2011. Featuring a long list of drip, espresso and gourmet coffee drinks, Juli's also has a menu loaded with tasty sandwiches, wraps and salads. In the morning, look for biscuits & gravy, breakfast burritos and tacos as well as assorted Danish.

With coffee beans from Kansas City's Roasterie and Topeka's Blue Jazz, owner Juli Cuthbertson has owned coffee shops in Rossville, Junction City and Wamego before opening up her new cafe in Topeka.

In April 2014, Juli's moved from the Huntoon and Gage location to downtown.

Mad Eliza’s Cakes and Confections

2839 S.W. 29th, Topeka

After three years of creating cakes in their home, Peggy and Mark Murnahan opened their first retail shop — Mad Eliza’s Cakes and Confections — with pink walls and a checked black and white floor.

Mad Eliza’s, named after the Murnahan's daughter Madeline Elizabeth, features cakes and confections including cupcakes, cookies and cheesecakes that change daily. Some of the more popular selections are the maple-bacon cupcakes, cream cheese-filled chocolate chip cookies and lemon bars. Peggy also makes cakes to-order.

In late 2014, Mad Eliza's moved across town to Brookwood Plaza.
