Turned away at 10:55pm on a Saturday night because they don't serve food after 11pm. People do like to eat a bit with their drinking. BWW is better, food til 1:30am.
Manager must be listening

We went back yesterday to give them another try. Mostly because it is non-smoking and we need more of that in Topeka off-Wanamaker. The first thing we noticed was the warm air when we entered. I even took my coat off. Our waiter was just as nice as could be. Our food came out quickly, it was hot and it was good. Our beer was in a frosty mug and tasted great. A football game was on. The sound was up so you could hear the game, yet we could still hold a conversation. I hope they keep up the good work and I hope that Topekans will support a local business that offers good food in a pleasant non-smoking atmosphere.
Good food, poor service

It's a shame when the service drags down a locally owned restaurant. Over the past year, I've been patronizing many local restaurants and trying to stay away from the chain joints out on Wanamaker. I was a huge fan of Henry T's when I lived in Lawrence, although the smoke in the place was horrible (it's now non-smoking). I was very excited to see one open up locally.
I'll concur with the other posts that the service is poor to downright miserable. While my experience wasn't quite as bad as others, it did take me nearly an hour to get in and out when there was only 4 or 5 occupied tables it the whole place. I had to get up from the table to get a refill and again to get my ticket. I was so PO'd that I left no tip for the first time in my life.
On a recent Sunday visit, I was at one of only 2 occupied tables. The volume on the TV was so LOUD that we couldn't even hold a conversation. Finally on my second request to turn down the volume, the waitress replied that she didn't want to because "the game was coming on." That's fine, but since the other occupied table wasn't watching the game either, you would think they would be able to accommodate us without much of a fuss. She did finally turn it down, only to turn it back up about 10 minutes later. We left a tip, but it wasn't much.
The food, when you get it, usually is very good. The menu has a wide variety of choices, from mexican to american to fish, chicken and burgers. The waffle cut fries are my family's favorite.
I'm torn... I want to support a local restaurant and I do like the food, but there's only so many times that a person can put up with crummy service. Here's hoping the management gets their butt in gear soon and makes some positive changes.
Quite a different story

What a difference a month seems to have made. Given the recent comments I suspect I won't be going back after all.

ordered a medium burger and recieved one burnt to a crisp, told the waitress, she did nothing, so i asked for the manager and showed her the burger. she refused to replace it at first untill i kept at it. she mocked me over and over, i just about lost it. if your looking for an enjoyable experience, do not go to henry t's.
Why so empty?

Why is this place always so empty when they are within walking distance of a college of around 7,000 students? Even on game days?

The Worst Experience I've Ever Had.

As someone who has worked in the service industry for several years I have a pretty good idea of what it takes to run a successful establishment. I've been to Henry T's three times and while the food is enjoyable and the menu is extensive, the service and management are AWFUL! The waitresses do not introduce themselves, they do not smile, and they act like serving you is doing you a favor! Not only are the waitresses awful, the general manager is the most unprofessional person in the service industry I've ever come across. To set the scenario, the restaurant was so cold inside we couldn't remove our jackets and there were literally two tables of customers, including us, in the entire restaurant and the waitress was still awful. Our chips and queso (1 minute prep) took 20 minutes, two of my friends waited 10 minutes for their drinks, and we literally had to flag her down when we were ready to order. This girl had two tables. She was not busy. When we asked for the manager to come to our table b/c we were unhappy with the service we were receiving she approached the table very defensively and proceeded to get into a verbal battle with a girl at our table and called her a b**ch! As if that wasn't enough, after the young lady was attacked and asked to leave, the manager proceeded to cause several more arguments at our table each and every time she came back. When everyone else at the table were served their lukewarm meals after 45 minutes of waiting and I was not served my meal I asked her about it. She looked at me blankly and snottily asked if I had ordered the same time as everyone else. I had been there with everyone the entire time. Come to find out, my order was the only one not entered out of the entire table. What baffled me was that my order literally took 2 minutes to reach the table and we had all waited 45 minutes for the rest of the table's food. As soon as it came I asked for a to-go box I was so disgusted with her behavior to which she replied "of course you do". I seriously thought we were being "punk'd". I've never seen or heard anything like it. And after it was all said and done, while mocking us and calling us "crazy" she presented everyone with their tabs. Not one of us was able to even finish our meals b/c we were so disgusted with the way we had been treated. Come to find out, the manager is in relation to the owner so she will still have her job after treating customers this way and it's doubtful she'll even be punished for her actions. At at time when people can rarely afford to go out to eat, when they do go they should be treated respectfully and have an enjoyable time. There is no excuse for what we experienced. To put it plainly, I highly discourage anyone from going there.

Gotta say, it was mighty tasty. This place is great. It would be better if they had a smoking section, but so it goes.

We come here often. We ALMOST always get a great meal. It is just a pleasure to relax and enjoy a meal without the smoke. For some reason it is always cold inside. Be sure to bring a jacket. I'm not thrilled with their hamburgers or the beef tacos. I think it's just cheap meat. I don't know, but I just stay away from them. Everything else I've tried is great. Especially the buffalo chicken salad.

I just came back from lunch here. Food was great. My beer mug was the frostiest I've seen in years anywhere. Fresh food, cold beer, friendly staff, non-smoking.....who could ask for anything more?

Decent food, but beer is often not very cold. Service is spotty.
