Sports Bars are not all the same so context counts and Lazy Toad carry’s all the sports packages for your TV viewing pleasure. Lazy Toad has all the amenities of a nationwide chain with the personal touch of being a local family owned business. The Lazy Toad has plenty of space, 38 TVs and a 10ft projection screen, dartboards, pool tables, games and exemplary food.

Far from the big-box, one-size-fits-all sports-drinking coliseum Lazy Toad has multiple seating areas including an Ultra Lounge, Upstairs, Restaurant side, Sports Bar side and Patio. Lazy Toad prides itself on its independence with a large craft beer selection including 20 beers on tap. With a menu that satisfies any craving from Home-style Entrees, to Tex Mex, to Burgers, to Pizza.

The Lazy Toad is also a house of entertainment with Live Bands and DJ performances throughout the week.

If you want to hang out in the kind of place that everybody knows your name then you have picked the right place, Toad Up!

I've eaten there twice and enjoyed the food and had really good service. I tried something different at each visit, and will not hesitate to go back again.

Went in this weekend and loved the place and the food. I felt very comfortable in the environment and enjoyed some dinner then dancing with my wife. It is truly a place to enjoy the night.

Terrible Server

I have held many parties upstairs and been in to the Lazy Toad on many occasions. I really enjoy the bar, great menu, great atmosphere, and good drink specials. I came in Friday night with a group of women to celebrate our friends birthday and we sat on the patio. I have NEVER had a server be so rude from the beginning. She rolled her eyes when she was asked the special; she never once smiled, it was more like a snarl. Overall I wondered why she kept the job if she hated it so much. Even when some of the girls tried to joke with her to lighten her up she still remained unaffected. It was such bummer to have such a rude server on such a fun night for me and my friends. If I were Todd I would ask Kelsey R to seek employment somewhere else.

In my quest to support local businesses I can honestly say this place makes it easier than most. With a great selection of food and beverages, especially the beer choices, I find that I can return often. Tonight I gave it my all to finish the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich with a side of Beer Cheese Soup. It was very tasty but simply too big for me to finish. So far I have tried 10 different menu choices and all is well. Looking forward to my next night out at the Lazy Toad!

Really wish they still had the fried broccoli and cauliflower that they had when they opened!!! Pretty much everything else I have had there has been good too though!

Juicy Lucy

The Juicy Lucy is what I set my sights on during my last visit to the Lazy Toad in Fairlawn Mall. The server explained that it is a 1 lb pattie that is both filled with cheese and topped with cheese. I decided to try it and was not disappointed. I requested Pepper Jack cheese instead of American and this proved to be a delicious choice. It tasted and smelled wonderful! I chose the homemade potato chips as my side item, they came out crispy and golden…they also gave a generous amount of the chips. My server was great, she told me they have 24 beers on tap and over 80 bottle choices. For good food, good beer, and good service I would definitely recommend the Lazy Toad. I know that I will definitely be returning soon.

Ate here last Sunday to try the breakfast buffet with my in-laws. The food was great and you really can't beat the price. Loved the atmosphere and am looking forward to watching football there soon. I will definately be having the buffet on football Sundays.

Ate here for the 3rd time and it was wonderful as always. The homestyle food is great. I also love the pizza. I have always had stellar service and the place just has a nice comfortable feel to it. The atmosphere is great. I would highly recommend giving it a try.

I like to go here on the weekend to listen to the bands. I find that the crowd is always a friendly one and you can’t beat the beer selection that this place has on tap. As far as the food goes I like the cheeseburger with home cut fries and gravy.

Ok food, bad service

A couple of the items on the menu at Lazy Toad are pretty tasty. Especially the pizza. However, everytime we visit this place we have terrible service. It doesn't matter what time of day, we are either ignored, wait forever to be greated, or are never checked on after our food arrives. I'd say skip the no window atmosphere and bad service by opting for to-go food.

We recently moved into the neighborhood of The Lazy Toad & have had nothing but fantastic food, drinks & service from this establishment since day one. There have been a few nights when the place seemed under-staffed, but I get the same feeling from every restaurant in Topeka at 7pm on a Friday. The bar was built after the smoking ban so it's immaculate inside & I look forward to taking more family there.

Thanks Todd for Great Service!

Just wanted to personally thank Todd and let everyone know how great we were treated while visiting The Lazy Toad! We called ahead, of course, and reserved several tables on a Friday night (usually not possible anywhere else in Topeka). Todd saved several tables for us! The food and service were great! We enjoyed a variety of menu items that satisfied the different appetites in our group. He even came out and thanked us for eating there and told us to call anytime! Our group meets every Friday night, and you can bet we will be back!

Worst Service in Topeka

→ Comment by BTBB

12/07/2011 11:23 am

I can say I have visited this bar more than a dozen times now. Only one server has ever given me good service. Most of the time you have to wait 15 minutes to be greated and when you are the wait staff is unfriendly and under trained. I keep coming back realizing this is a new bar and things will need to be worked out. It's about time they got their act together. The worse example of this is a recent big party a family friend hosted. They were aware there would be 30+ people, but no wait staff was assigned. When we weren't greeted for 30 min, I went to the bar to get a drink. The bartender took forever, bussing his work station first, then finally getting my drinks. I went back to my seat where a waitress finally came up to take a food order after waiting more than an hour. The staff kept explaining they were understaffed. However, there was a half empty room with several servers who never ventured to our area. What happened to the entire wait staff helping out when one section was overwhelmed? On top of all that, one of the male servers got snippy with another member of our party who politely asked if we were ever going to get served. The management at this place is terrible, the wait staff isn't trained, and the food is just ok. How can you keep a bar open and make money when no one will serve you? Too bad they can't get their act together because the location is great!

With any new adventure a learning process always takes place. Topeka has needed something new and different to do for quite a few years and now we have it. From the very first day I walked in the door I have always been welcomed with a smile and a hearty greeting. The menu that Todd and his staff have put together is beyond exceptional. The food the kitchen staff puts out there is by far the best I have ever experienced. That along with the variety of the coldest beer in town, the bands on the weekends, the smiles on the faces of the wait staff and the thirty some TVs to catch a game or race on is why I will continue to support these people. My hats off to the entire Howell family for bring this new and relaxed concept to Topeka. With all that said now all you have to do is stop by, have a cold one and enjoy the fun times!!!

I have been to a number of places to hang out and have a good time. My job sends me everywhere. I live at Fort Riley and there are not a lot of places to go. In the past I have tried to find a place to hang out in Topeka, because it is closer than KC. Nothing has worked, even the new places. I saw a shirt a couple of weeks ago with the Lazy Toad on it. Found out the person works there and asked us to come by. My friends and I stopped by two weeks ago on Saturday and Friday last week. The place was packed and we were lucky to get a seat. I am telling you the food was outstanding (loved the pizza and meatloaf), hands down. Nothing was over 12 bucks and there were so many choices. The drink specials were also great. We tried to get into the Ultra Lounge but it was reserved both nights. The place looked “Awesome” and the customers were having a great time. Love the patio with a nice breeze and some privacy. We used the GPS and it put us right there. The owner has done a great job trying to bring something to Topeka that you do not see. Thanks to my new friend for telling me about this place and we will be back, many times.

Meh, okay.

Our server was nice, but when we sat outside, no one ever came to check on us. Also, the level of music outside? I don't feel like I should have to scream across the table if we are on the patio. That means your stereo is too loud. I totally get it being crazy noisy and such inside a bar, but that was ridiculous. We left because who likes to just sit and stare at each other across a table?

Went here for the first time this week. Ordered a drink (vodka and sugar-free redbull). The waitress gave me vodka nd cranberry. I told her this wasn't what I ordered and her comment was "Can you just drink this one and I'll get the next one right?" Really?? I told her no and asked to please bring what I ordered. When she brought the correct drink order to the table she slammed it down, spilling some on the table and my friend sitting with me. No apology or anything! We all planned to eat there but paid our tab and went to Tailgaters instead. We don't have drinks thrown at us for having the nerve to ask for what we ordered there.

My boyfriend and I have been twice both on weeknights. Obviously not looking for some crazy party during the weeknight just a few good drinks. Jessica was our server and she was awesome both times we've had her, I am new to Topeka and we happen to be the same age and since there wasn't anyone else she needed to wait on she would sit and chat with us for a few minutes her friendly and speedy service is THE reason we will be back!

Joe-
I am the owner of the Lazy Toad and wanted to thank you for bringing the situation with Jessica to my attention. She is not related to my family nor was she in any position of authority when she should have been serving you. I assure you the situation has been addressed on our end and I ask that you give us another chance. As with any new business we are still working on getting the best staff that we possibly can. We will be implementing some new policies based on your lack of service. I would like the opportunity to speak with you in person and to make this situation right with you. Please feel free to call me at 785-272-8623 to see what we can do for you.
Sincerely-
Todd Howell
Owner, Lazy Toad

I was in Tuesday evening for my first time and will not be back. Things I liked were the beer prices, food was pretty good for bar food and the prices weren't to high. Here is why I won't be back, our service sucked. Jessica(I think) waited on me and my friend and she was too busy playing on her cell phone to give us proper service, she had a smug attitude as well. I understand people can have an off day and get stressed, but add that with the cell phone and it is a deal breaker. My guess is that she is related to a manager or owner because she seemed to run the show while I was there, barking orders at other employees. Was not impressed and I will spend my money elsewhere where the staff is more attentive of their clientele instead of their cell phones.

I had these before and they were so so. Was told to try them again and wow!!!. There is nothing better than a cold beer, eating hot wings and watching my Chiefs. My friend was licking the sauce off the plate. The place looked packed and the owner was all over the place talking to customers. I asked if there were any new food items and he told me to try the irish nachos, man they were good. The patio is a nice place to have a smoke and get a breeze, it looked like the place to be. Man this place is getting better. Really a nice place to hang out for this "old man", keep it up!!!

I like the setup and the different areas to check out. And the drink prices are on par with other places in town. However I have not been impressed with the food. Last 2 times I have been there the items come out missing things from the menu or with extra things not on the menu. It's a little disappointing when this happens, and it shouldn't if the kitchen staff is trained properly. I probably won't go back for the food, but I would stop in for some drinks.

If you are looking for a homemade meal try the Lazy Toad. This is not a chain but local owners who want to provide good service and food. There are plenty of recipes taken from mom’s cookbook. We are talking homemade Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, Brisket, Spaghetti and Meatballs, real Mashed Potatoes, Pizza and Breakfast served all day long. The people of the Lazy Toad do care and will always strive to make things right for the clientele.

I was there on Friday as well...It was pretty easy to find unless you don't know where Kiku's or Eagle Auto Wash are. I guess you must like it over at some other venues better as the food pricing and drinks are lower than most other venues in town. I know, I am jewish by nature and go for the best deals and best service. We frequent Jose Pepper's, Lazy Toad, La Rocca's, and for splurging we go to Long Horns.

The location is terrible - who can find this place? Went there this weekend and wont be back. Food wasn't worth the money and drinks were expensive. Didn't care for the atmosphere either. BTW - like how the owners are shamelessly trying to use this site to get some free advertising by blogging their specials.
