Baker's Dozen Donuts

Baker's Dozen, which began in 2004 as a mom-and-pop style doughnut store, is now a 24-hour-a-day operation. The S.W. 21st St. store recently moved a few blocks west into an 11,000-square-foot building that offers a 24-hour drive-through window seven days a week. The spacious dining room hours on 21st St., where all of the store's baking is done, are now 3 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Regulars will still find the popular Peanut Butter and Jelly Donut and the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Donut, with fresh batches now made twice a day. And you still get more for your money at Baker's Dozen, which stays true to its name by adding an extra doughnut to every dozen you purchase. Diabetic? No problem! Big T's Cajun 'N Fast Foods

Founded in 2008, T's Cajun 'N Fast Foods Restaurant is sure to satisfy customers looking for traditional, down-home cooking prepared just like in the old days. In the past five years, owner Thomas Riley has immersed himself in the southern food establishment in order to create a menu that combines the best of Cajun and southern cooking traditions.

Spicy, flavorful favorites like gumbo, jambalaya, Po'Boys and etouffe are served up every day, many with mounds of seafood, including catfish, shrimp, crawfish and oysters. Sides include southern staples such as collard greens, okra and cornbread. And if there are picky eaters in the family, never fear - there's a children's menu.

Save room for dessert, and sample Big T's peach cobbler or sweet potato pie.



Blackbird Espresso Bar and Bistro

Bobo's Drive In

Visit one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Cuisine -- an award bestowed on this classic Topeka burger drive in by the Kansas Sampler Foundation in June 2009.

Bobo's has been a Topeka tradition since 1948 and was featured on the Food Network show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" in 2008. It is famous for its handmade apple pies -- served by the slice or whole pie -- and its onion rings, which also are made fresh every day. Car hops take your order and bring your food to your car.

Anyone who has lived in Topeka very long knows about Bobo's. Most have eaten there at one time or another. And when people move away and come back to visit, many just have to have a burger at Bobo's. (Updated 4.5.10)
