Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant

Golden Dragon has become a mealtime destination for many Topekans who are hungry for good Chinese food in the downtown area. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Battered shrimp, and chicken with onions are two popular choices from the buffet. Check out the buffet, available from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, for dining in or to go.



Hanover Pancake House

Hanover Pancake House has been serving Topekans since 1969. Its slogan is: "Food so great, you'll scrape your plate!" Hanover serves both breakfast and lunch favorites in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere, and is popular among the downtown Topeka lunch crowd.



Hazel Hill Chocolate Traditions

724 S. Kansas, Topeka

Hazel Hill offers a mouth-watering display of melt-in-your mouth, delectable sweets. The goodies don’t come cheap, but they are a perfect example of the phrase “you get what you pay for.” Hazel Hill offers fancy treats, like champagne truffles, but it also makes old favorites like the caramel apple seem brand new.

Rest in a cushy chair, breathe in the chocolate aroma and watch the scene. Enjoy a cup of coffee and take advantage of free wireless Internet.

Everything is made in the old downtown storefront. Call for information about taking a tour, and watch Hazel Hill make its own fudge, truffles, turtles and other sweets. The shop opened March 17, 2006, and now ships its goodies throughout the country.

Hazel Hill also has a second location in Manhattan.



Heartland Cafe Uptown

325 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka

Jayhawk Corner Cafe & Jayhawk Java

700 S.W. Jackson, Topeka

Scott Nickel, who has operated the Brickyard Barn Inn on N.W. 25th with his wife, Truanna, for the past 11 years, has extended his cooking reach to the Jayhawk Tower office complex at 7th and Jackson.

The Jayhawk Corner Cafe, located in the lobby of the former Jayhawk Hotel, offers an all-inclusive lunch buffet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and eventually will have breakfast, too. The food includes American, Italian, Mexican and Southwestern favorites on a rotating basis. Coffee is served from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the week.



Jersey Mike's Subs

718 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka

Step inside Jersey Mike's Subs and be prepared to hear from the personable staff. Featuring one of the friendliest atmospheres in town, Jersey Mike's serves a variety of great Italian subs, both hot and cold, along with wraps and salads. Jersey Mike's has been in Topeka since 2003, with its original location on S.W. Wanamaker. This downtown location with ample seating opened in 2005. (Updated 6.11.10)



Juli's Coffee and Bistro

110 S.E. 8th, Topeka

Juli's Coffee and Bistro, located in Gage Village shopping center at Huntoon and Gage, opened in May 2011. Featuring a long list of drip, espresso and gourmet coffee drinks, Juli's also has a menu loaded with tasty sandwiches, wraps and salads. In the morning, look for biscuits & gravy, breakfast burritos and tacos as well as assorted Danish.

With coffee beans from Kansas City's Roasterie and Topeka's Blue Jazz, owner Juli Cuthbertson has owned coffee shops in Rossville, Junction City and Wamego before opening up her new cafe in Topeka.

In April 2014, Juli's moved from the Huntoon and Gage location to downtown.



Lupita's Mexican Restaurant

732 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka

At Lupita's Mexican Restaurant, all of the recipes originate from within the family. By using Lupita's creations the restaurant can guarantee the food will have an authentic, at-home Mexican flavor. Maddie's

Maddie's is a lounge serving your favorite drinks and is directly connected to the Madison Street Diner inside the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center.

They serve the same great food that has made the Madison Street Diner a popular destination, as well as top-shelf cocktails in a quiet, friendly environment.

The Madison Street Diner, inside the Ramada Hotel and Convention Center, has been open since 2006, offering great food in a quiet, casual atmosphere for downtown office and government workers.
