New City Café is a gem for anyone who loves wine and good food – a neat place with chic décor tucked into Gage Center. The wine selection is New City Café’s “pride and joy,” says owner and chef Luis Guillén, and the restaurant offers wine tastings the first Wednesday of each month along with the opening of the month’s art exhibit.

The wines offer the perfect pairing to New City’s food, which Guillén describes as an eclectic blend of Mediterranean, Latin and Caribbean flavors. Some staples remain on the menu, but regular diners can count on new dishes appearing every four months.

At lunch, the atmosphere is casual and the dishes affordably priced. Pick up a sandwich and salad or one of the two soups and four entrees that Luis makes fresh daily.

At dinner, New City lays out the white tablecloths for a full-service, upscale dining experience. Customers are seated until 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. (Updated 3/30/09)

Visit here in the evening for a romantic evening or someplace special to go with friends. Wait staff is exceptional. Lunch is a treat all in its own. Great place when you are craving something different and special. Menu changes every day with a few favorite constants.

The atmosphere is awesome, and the food can't be beat. There's different food all the time, which is great that you never know what will be there. If you're not as adventurous, they always have a great selection of soups, salads and sandwiches. The staff is awesome as well. They are very attentive and remember their frequent customers and have been known to give out hugs a time or two. I take anyone from out of town here to show off the coolest place in town.

great if you are into microwaves...otherwise go to Dillons

I don't get the part about pre-plating the food and setting it out in the deli case...seems too much like the grocery store lunchmeat counter. Do yourself a favor and lose the deli cases, no matter how much they cost you.

Honestly, there is not a trendier eatery in Topeka. The decor is as modern as it gets, and the new world cuisine is top notch. If you are going for lunch, get there early as the entrees can get snatched up fast leaving you fewer choices. The wait staff is the best in Topeka.
