You won't accidentally drive by this hidden-away barbecue joint southeast of downtown Topeka. For 23 years, Earline and Verdell Bugg ran the club Tewz Enuff at the site. But Earline said they were keenly aware of the problems alcohol can create in a community and decided to change their focus.
Verdell already took pride in the barbecue he smoked, so they settled on a new barbecue restaurant. They reopened as Papa Tewz in June 2009 featuring barbecue, fish and chicken.
"My husband thinks that he is the best," Earline said of the barbecue.
She agrees. "It is good. It is good."
She says Verdell's barbecue isn't real spicy. It's slow smoked all the way. (Posted June 24, 2009)
