When you order a slab of ribs, you are going to get a slab! Even if you order a half-rack, you could still have enough left over to take home and make the puppy happy.

While Pat's does offer some turkey, fish and veggie burgers, it can't be classified as a low-fat place -- just a good barbecue joint.

The family-owned Pat's prides itself on being family friendly and offers a popular kids menu.

We went to Pats Pig for lunch twice this week. The former manager has left and they have hired a culinary chef that is improving the food quality and is the overal manager.

Straub and Live2Race: We should have taken your advise!

The place has gone to the PITS! NOT THE SAME HOSPITALITY AT ALL!!! Screw racers and their fans once, but not twice! The new owner is incompetent to say the least.

We usually would go in there four or five times during the races between runs or after track closed. We always received a down home, true appreciation from Tamara & Shane (it wasnt fake like some places we travel).

Lets's address the food and service: The food came out to our table sooooo slooooooow. We had a waitress whos appearances were simular to the freaks we see in the San Fran Bay Area on the streets (visualize the picture). We finally get the food and omg definately not the same. Beef was tough, Burnt Ends fatty and foul tasting, Ribs horibble and NO FLIPPING PICKLES, bread was hard and not from being toasted, coke was flat and the cole slaw ~ beware it was CRAP!

The next night we come back from the track and they were closed!!! We had gotten online and read Tamara's letter about giving them sometime. Tamara & Shane, if you guys read these. Anytime and we mean anytime your ready to get back into the business. Girl you know where to call Nitro Man in LA we will back you. Hell, we'll do the theme up right! Or better yet "T-girl" travel as our teams Chef!

Well we're packin up and headin out early. Just wasn't our weekend all the way around, bad wheather, bad food and a red light! Mandy says we needed our good luck charms Tamara & Shane's RIBS!

Great service, food ok

First visit to Pat's Pig tonight. I was using the topekadailydeal certificate, I get there place my order to go and hear the cashier telling the gentlemen in front of me that the certificate can only be used on dine in- which is not mentioned or printed anywhere on the certificate.

Anyway, my husband and I return later to eat inside and the service was fantastic, however the food was mediocre. The ribs tasted like they were baked- not smoked. The waitress suggested a try the "loaded baked potato" because "it's filled with bacon, cheese, and sour cream". The potato arrived barely done, with a tea-spoon of cheese (I think) and a sprinkle of bacon. Not impressive at all.

The atmosphere WAS nice. Very family friendly. And the cashier/waitress was extremely pleasant. I left there saying I would probably not eat there again, BUT after reading the other post here and realizing the restaurant is in transition, I have decided I would consider giving Pat's Pig another try at a later time.....Maybe with a little time they will improve. They have several pro's working in their favor, but ultimately it is the flavor of the food that will win people over. Wishing the new owner's all the best!

Missing our Customers Local & Racers

Thank you for the years of supporting Pat's Pig BBQ.
We would like all of our customers to know our decision to sell was extremely difficult. Many of you were more than customers to us; you were family!

There were three potential buyers for the BBQ and we felt our decision to sell to Clark Deshazer (owner) was the best fit for Pat's Pig. Clark being a native resident of Topeka and strong family ties. Our desire for Pat's Pig was to keep it Family Strong for our old customers and their new customers.

We have had many calls and offers lately to reopen and come back to Topeka. We appreciate your kind and sincere offers. Writing this is just as difficult as it was leaving Pat's Pig.

Shane and myself believe in Clark Deshazer to keep the Pig alive and well, for generations of families and racers to come. Shane has offered to be of service to Clark whenever asked or needed. As he too wants Pat's Pig BBQ to be successful.

I am sleeping better at night and fishing at the Ozarks without interruptions from staff. :-)

Mickayla, she misses the Pig the most but enjoying school. She thanks everyone who helped her go to Italy this year. Keep your eyes and ears open she maybe a future Politician. As I write this today she is Paging at our Capitol for, Representative Kansas House District 10
Representative Terri Lois Gregory.

We ask that you be patient and understanding of new ownerships. As they will change things to make it their own and change is not always easy for some but with change can come new and better things.

Remember it took me 1 day to open Pat's Pig BBQ and 22 years to improve it.

Thank you for your support and loyalty. We do miss you all and think of everyone often.

Food is good and very consistant. Wendall Deshazer the new owner had a rough start but is off and running. We Enjoy visiting for Taco Tuesday and the Good Homemade Pie!

Not So Hot

Well BBQ fans, I must admit the shout out is correct! The BBQ at Pat's has gone way down hill. Batman you are correct with regards to the pork being moist but the flavoring was way off! Did not have a Hickory taste to it at all. Did I mention my sons Ham & Turkey was cold ~ Not So hot!

You are also correct Batman about the new owner. He knows nothing about BBQ.

We met him and he has absolutely zero personality, I hate to say I thought the smell of alcohol was coming off his breathe. He also knew nothing about the artwork on his walls.

Live2race try Lonnie Q's BBQ, they have a new location. Or you can go to Beemers in Lawrence.

Better yet find the prior owners and set them up closer to the track just to have our favorite BBQ back!

Call Junior's 785-862-7427, they know how to get ahold of them because the waitress you mention next door worked for them for years before her husband opened next door.

yes, the place was sold and has new owners; the new owners have not opened a BBQ place anywhere else that I am aware of.

That said, I have been eating here very frequently for a long time and I do not think it has gone downhill at all; I think you must have just had a bad experience, which is unfortunate, but all restaurants have them.

Ate there last week and the only difference I noticed in the food is I swore the pulled pork was different, seemed more tender. Actually thought it was the best I've ever had there, so it may have been a change for the better!

I think this place has the best BBQ in Topeka and some of the best I've ever had. Their hot BBQ sauce is the best.

This place was our race season opener, sadly not anymore.

What's changed? The food and quality way down hill, the service went to the pig pen. We went next door and the waitress there (who was extremely friendly)said they sold the joint? Does anyone know if the prior owners opened up somewhere else in Town?

Division 5 Racers don't waste your money here anymore. We wont be back and will email everyone when we find a new BBQ Joint for Topeka close to the track.

Heidi-strap the ole 5-pt harness on this year is our year! We'll put the rib-bone in the sack!

I have been eating here for 10+ years and it's by far the best BBQ in town. Atmosphere B-, Food A+, I wish it were located in town, I'd go weekly!

Good BBQ
