Casa Ramos Mexican Restaurant

837 S.W. Fairlawn Road, Topeka

Casa Ramos is a family-owned restaurant featuring a cozy "rise-and-shine" decor, in the words of one employee. Descended from a Casa Ramos chain in California and first opened in Kansas in Emporia, the Topeka store serves authentic Mexican cuisine in a warm, relaxed and festive atmosphere. "If you want a taste of heaven, come to Casa Ramos," manager Alvaro Ramos says.

The family-oriented restaurant serves lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, while offering daily lunch and dinner specials. On Sundays, kids eat for 50 percent off. There are 99-cent margaritas Monday through Thursday and 99-cent Budweiser and Bud Light draws every day. Don't forget to look for the rubber chicken! (Updated 5.7.10)



Celtic Fox

Cheeburger Cheeburger

2919 S.W. Wanamaker Road, Topeka

This '50s style diner most definitely is not brought to you by the letter "S." Cheeburger Cheeburger, which opened June 23, 2009, features "Cheeburgers" (what others might call a cheeseburger) topped with as many as 26 different toppings.
The Wanamaker location is the first Kansas franchise for the Fort Myers, Fla., chain. Cheeburger Cheeburger features beef fresh from a plant in Dodge City, topped with one of nine cheeses and then any combination of 26 toppings for no extra charge. Cheeburger also offers sandwiches, salads, milkshakes and malts.
“It’s not fast food,” owner Tom Overton told The Topeka Capital-Journal. “Everything is made to order.”
Hungry adults who can make a "pounder" disappear will get their picture taken and posted on a bulletin board inside the restaurant. Kids younger than 12 can take on the challenge with a half-pounder.



Chez Yasu Restaurant

2701 S.W. 17th, Topeka

Chez Yasu has been offering classic French cuisine since 2002. Don't be intimidated by the foreign menu, however. Chef Yasushi Hatasawa promises he serves French cuisine with enough of an American twist to appeal to the midwestern palette. If you're familiar with French cuisine, Chez Yasu won't disappoint. Chick-A-Dee has been an East Topeka favorite since 1948, featuring casual dining and fresh, home-cooked meals. It is frequented by local folks who enjoy the regular crowd and good food. Because the owners expect an older crowd, they keep the menu and prices as stable as possible. Everything on the menu is made from scratch with an effort made to get fresh vegetables in a well-balanced meal no matter if it is breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The first Chick-Fil-A opened in the 1960s as a shopping-mall establishment and has grown to become the second largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States. Despite its growth, Chick-fil-A remains privately held and family owned and continues to be committed to quality boneless chicken sandwiches, an invention credited to Truett Cathy, founder and owner of the Chick-fil-A Restaurant. China Express opened in June 2009 to serve customers with dine-in, carry-out, drive-through and delivery options. For downtowners who were loyal fans of the Panda Garden (which was torn down), they'll find the same managers and recipes although ownership is different.
