Buzzard's Pizza

4745 N.W. Hunters Ridge Circle, Topeka

Buzzard’s Pizza flew into Topeka in February 2009 with a new shop featuring a drive-through window and a long list of toppings that create a dizzying amount of pizza possibilities – all on hand-tossed crusts. This family chain – with shops in Lyndon and Osage City – offers usual toppings like barbecue beef and shrimp. Plus, it offers salads, subs, buffalo wings, sandwiches and domestic beers. Cafe Barnabas

5331 S.W. 22nd Place, Topeka

Cafe Barnabas is a volunteer-run shop in Fairlawn Plaza Mall. Their specialty is tea-related drinks, but they do offer fresh baked goods, sandwiches and wraps.



Cara's Cup

5660 SW 29th, Topeka

PT's has been the leader in Topeka coffee shops since 1993 and also has a roasting company that caters to restaurants and customers across the country.

You can buy fresh roasted coffee by the pound right at the shop. PT's in Barrington Village brews five different coffees daily that are all fresh roasted. It boasts some of the most knowledgeable baristas in the business.

PT's also serves hot and cold sandwiches, fresh muffins, and scones. And, for the hard-core coffee lover, PT's has a Clover machine, a one-cup brewing system.

In 2014, the original PT's location underwent a name change, being re-branded as Cara's Cup, in honor of Cara Kroll, a former manager who passed away in 2012. The shop is under different ownership.



Chic-A-Dee Cafe

3036 S.E. 6th, Topeka

Chick-A-Dee has been an East Topeka favorite since 1948, featuring casual dining and fresh, home-cooked meals. It is frequented by local folks who enjoy the regular crowd and good food. Because the owners expect an older crowd, they keep the menu and prices as stable as possible. Everything on the menu is made from scratch with an effort made to get fresh vegetables in a well-balanced meal no matter if it is breakfast, lunch or dinner.



Chick-Fil-A

1801 S.W. Wanamaker, Topeka

The first Chick-Fil-A opened in the 1960s as a shopping-mall establishment and has grown to become the second largest quick-service chicken restaurant chain in the United States. Despite its growth, Chick-fil-A remains privately held and family owned and continues to be committed to quality boneless chicken sandwiches, an invention credited to Truett Cathy, founder and owner of the Chick-fil-A Restaurant. China Express

514 SW 10th St., Topeka

China Express opened in June 2009 to serve customers with dine-in, carry-out, drive-through and delivery options. For downtowners who were loyal fans of the Panda Garden (which was torn down), they'll find the same managers and recipes although ownership is different.



Chow Time Buffet

1700 S.W. Wanamaker, Topeka

Coming in to replace the former Royal Buffet and Mr. Stirfry, Chow Time Buffet opened at the beginning of 2015. The decor includes a large golden Buddha and dolls dressed in Japanese kimonos at the cashier’s counter. The tables include an inlay that looks like a scroll featuring Chinese calligraphy in the center, and most tables have cut-metal lamps hanging over them. Manager Terry Lin said there are around 250 items on the menu.



Chuckburger

2318 S.E. 6th, Topeka

Chuckburger has been an East Topeka tradition since 1955 and offers some of Topeka's finest burgers. Chuckburger's cooked-to-order burgers (including the signature Chuckburger) and fries (including the fabulous sweet potato fries) are served from the drive-through or at the walk-up window. Its hand-dipped ice creams, shakes and malts are especially popular.
Husband and wife team John and Ellie Benedict own and run the business, which has a loyal following. (Updated 1.29.14)
