Jose Pepper's

The Jose Pepper's franchise originated in the Kansas City area, and specializes in fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine.

CEO Tom Hance said Jose Pepper’s strives to provide a fun, extremely casual dining experience. “It’s a very warm atmosphere,” he said. “It’s festive with lots of bright colors – reds, greens, oranges and yellows.”

The restaurant is well known for its Espinaca Con Queso – a blend of jalapeno cheese, onions, ripe tomatoes and a touch of spinach, served with hot tortilla chips. There are also lots of child-friendly amenities including balloons, coloring books and crayons and a kids menu, making it a popular destination for families on weeknights and weekends.

LaRocca's Pizza

Less than two years after opening the wildly popular LaRocca's Pizza at S.W. 21st and Urish, Vince and Irene LaRocca opened a new pizza joint in the former Spanky's bar location at 3100 S.W. Gage Blvd.

With room for a hundred hungry customers, the new LaRocca's location turned a tired and well-worn neighborhood bar spot into a sleek and pristine pizza place that features all of the items that keeps the standing room only place on Urish hopping.

LaRocca's delectable pizza, pasta, subs and salads are now served alongside a full-service bar that features more than a dozen beers, wine and cocktails.

Las Fuentes Authentic Mexican Restaurant & Cantina

Enjoy authentic Mexican food served in a brightly-decorated and friendly atmosphere. Las Fuentes, which has been open at the southwest corner of the old White Lakes Mall complex since 2001, serves lots of filling dishes. Its steak and fajitas are particularly popular.

Lazy Toad Restaurant, Sports Bar & Lounge

Todd Howell's exciting new sports bar & restaurant opened in the west end of Fairlawn Plaza in April 2011. Howell, a partner in Bullfrog's Live for nine years, has created a spectacular new place that holds more than 300 people and has 38 50-inch flat screen TVS as well as a 10-foot HD projector TV. On the weekends Lazy Toad will have live music.

The restaurant features home style food with favorites such as fried chicken and meatloaf as well as New York-style pizza as well as upscale bar food.

Look for the addition of an outdoor patio with seating of about 100.

Ling's Cafe

2022 N. Topeka Blvd., Topeka

Located in the North Commons shopping area on North Topeka Boulevard, Ling's Cafe specializes in Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Look for traditional Chinese dishes like chow mein, egg foo young and sweet and sour as well as Japanese favorites like teriyaki.

In 2012, Ling's expanded and renovated adding more seating, a Mongolian Grill and a Sushi Bar. In addition to an extensive menu, look for a lunch and dinner buffet.

Opened in March of 2011, Ling's is helping to fill the void of Asian restaurants in North Topeka and features dine-in as well as carry-out service. (1/13)

LongHorn Steakhouse

Lonnie Q's BBQ

After 10 years running the BBQ spot at Topeka Harley Davidson, Lonnie Weaver set off on his own (armed with a hungry army of loyal BBQ fans) and opened a new restaurant in February 2011, in Deer Creek Valley, just south of I-70 (take the SE Deer Creek Trafficway exit on I-70 and go south before turning east of SE 21st St.) and north of Lake Shawnee (from SE 29th St. behind the Lake Shawnee dam, go north on SE Wittenberg Road to SE 21st St.).

Located in a brand new building near Deer Creek RV Park, Lonnie's offers exactly what you expect in a BBQ joint: ribs, brisket, pork and turkey as well as an array of outstanding side dishes including his popular cheesy taters. On Saturday mornings, Lonnie's serves biscuits and gravy.

And before you think that Lonnie is just the mastermind at the smoker, know that the music inspired murals inside the restaurant were all painted by Lonnie himself. The interior of Lonnie's is both comfortable and sophisticated with room for 75.

Los Charros

If you're a fan of delicious Mexican food and cheap margaritas, and who isn't really? Then Los Charros is the place for you.

Marco Smith, part-owner of El Charro, had always wanted to open a second location in Topeka. He and his wife Savanna realized that dream with the opening of Los Charros in August 2010. The restaurant is nestled in the corner of the Gage Center shopping complex and is easily accessible from Gage Drive and Huntoon Street.

Signature dishes include fajitas and Popeye's Chicken (made with spinach). Mouth-watering 99-cent margaritas are on special Monday - Thursday, as well as on Saturdays. A spacious dining room and eye-catching bar area are just icing on the cake.
