Prize Package is a longtime Topeka tradition delighting customers with tasty burgers at cheap prices. If you're looking for a good lunch near downtown, Prize Package is only about eight blocks east of 6th and Kansas.
Legend has it that Prize Package started in the 1920s and was located around 4th and Quincy until urban renewal pushed it out. Harold Cromwell Sr. took over the business around 1952, and it has remained in the Cromwell family ever since. The business has been located in its current location since 1964. (Updated 3/11/14)

Not for the faint of heart, you walk into a shack in a part of Topeka you may not venture into very often. You order at a counter, no seats, and wait for your food. The counter people are not very friendly which lends itself to the whole experience. Order the double cheeseburger, it's a whopping $1.80!!! It's a very good burger too. I love this place. No dinner, just lunch.

Can't wait to try!

One of those places you almost wish other people didn't know about, you want to keep the secret to yourself it's that good. Avoid the rush if you can, but worth the wait if you can't. Great food, great price. Truly one of the best. Words can't explain, must be experienced!!!

Cheese heaven!

This place is wonderful. The Cromwell family did something great here in Topeka. I appreciate the fact that with all the development out west, they choose to remain in East Topeka. All I have to say is cheeseburgers and cheese balls! Do call ahead to avoid the wait.

A little scary but Awesome Burgers

A friend told me about this place 10 years ago, I went in and was blown away by how they operate, no chairs, no tables, just walk in, order and get out. Greasiest burger you'll probably ever have, but man are they good. Not an everyday kinda place, but a real treat when you go. Call ahead so you don't have to wait in the little 8x8 waiting area too long.

If you were just driving down 6th Street you might not even glance at Prize Package, and even if you did, you probably wouldn't know what was inside. But for those who have pulled over and ventured in over the last 80 years they all know the same thing: this is the real deal.

If you like a great greasy burger or almost anything deep-fried, Prize Package will fill the need. Your cardiologist probably won't be pleased, but he'll get over it.
