Took my GF to eat there last Fri night. Even though several tables were open we had about a 15 min wait. No big deal. They were out of about every bottled beer on the menu. Honestly we had had to settle for our 5th choice in beer beverage. Needless today we ordered steaks. Me the KC Strip and my girl the Ribeye. I'm pretty sure the salad was out of a bag and maybe roadhouse has spoiled me but I've come to expect cheese and bacon bits on my baked potato. Not an option at Puffy's. Perhaps they let their steaks take center stage because they were terrific. Cooked to order, tender and super tasty! I can't say much for presentation and atmosphere but I will say that there is simple charm to the place filled with good Kansas folk. Will I be back? Yes. Perhaps not next week or next month but that steak was worth a trip back sometime in the near future.

Best Steak Around

The wife and I went to the Blues Festival and then decided to go and try out this place. We both got our steaks and they absolutely awesome. Didn't even need any steak sauce. Our server wasn't very friendly and didn't fill the water glasses. But, they had the best steak I have had.

Its ok , but not worth the drive

Puffy's is just an average 'middle of the road' steakhouse that could use a good cleaning.
Not really worth the drive when there are much better steakhouse's in Topeka.

Not worth the drive.

The owners need to visit other restaurants so they can see what they MUST improve on. A few improvements would help immensely here.

I don't expect every steakhouse to have its own steak sauce, but DO NOT serve generic brands of worchestershire, steak sauce, BBQ, ketchup etc. I wanted to go next door to their store and buy a name brand just so we could have it with our meals, but didn't want to insult them.

Atmosphere was tacky, dirty, dark and smells of strong smoke everywhere. Walls had food and ketchup on them, as did the tables and chairs. A good washing will go a long way there.

Food was very sub-par. The side items were cold. Fries were cold. My steak was tough and inedible and I left it behind, uneaten. My knife wouldn't cut it. The waitress NEVER returned to our table after bringing the food, prior to presenting the check, so I never had an opportunity to voice my problem. When I told her, she said that since we didn't tell her before the check, there was nothing she could do. I told her that she never returned to check on us and her reply was that we should have gotten up to get her from the kitchen. We were one of 2 tables that night and noticed that the other couple received no service either, and we could overhear their discontent also.

They need to invest in decent flatware. Badly. The fork tines would bend with almost every use. We were continuously fixing the tines, bending them back so we could eat. The steak knife is the cheapest I have ever used. The knife bent, while trying to cut my steak. If your steaks aren't tender, at least supply the basic steak knife. People expect nicer flatware in a restaurant than what they have at home. Not the case here. I suggest you take your own sauces, ketchup and flatware.

We won't be back.

It's OK

Puffy's is OK if you want huge portions in an atmosphere that needs improving -- especially if you are with a group and are seated in the "overflow" room. It lacks decor and is always very loud. One good thing is that two people can share one entree. People in Kansas seem to love huge portions of food at a fair price.

It seems people we know from out of town see the billboard and want to go there. We don't discourage them, but would much rather go somewhere else. I will say that it is nice that a locally-owned restaurant enjoys such popularity. They must be doing everything right to be voted the "best" in Northeast Kansas.
