The owners need to visit other restaurants so they can see what they MUST improve on. A few improvements would help immensely here.
I don't expect every steakhouse to have its own steak sauce, but DO NOT serve generic brands of worchestershire, steak sauce, BBQ, ketchup etc. I wanted to go next door to their store and buy a name brand just so we could have it with our meals, but didn't want to insult them.
Atmosphere was tacky, dirty, dark and smells of strong smoke everywhere. Walls had food and ketchup on them, as did the tables and chairs. A good washing will go a long way there.
Food was very sub-par. The side items were cold. Fries were cold. My steak was tough and inedible and I left it behind, uneaten. My knife wouldn't cut it. The waitress NEVER returned to our table after bringing the food, prior to presenting the check, so I never had an opportunity to voice my problem. When I told her, she said that since we didn't tell her before the check, there was nothing she could do. I told her that she never returned to check on us and her reply was that we should have gotten up to get her from the kitchen. We were one of 2 tables that night and noticed that the other couple received no service either, and we could overhear their discontent also.
They need to invest in decent flatware. Badly. The fork tines would bend with almost every use. We were continuously fixing the tines, bending them back so we could eat. The steak knife is the cheapest I have ever used. The knife bent, while trying to cut my steak. If your steaks aren't tender, at least supply the basic steak knife. People expect nicer flatware in a restaurant than what they have at home. Not the case here. I suggest you take your own sauces, ketchup and flatware.
We won't be back.
It's OK

Puffy's is OK if you want huge portions in an atmosphere that needs improving -- especially if you are with a group and are seated in the "overflow" room. It lacks decor and is always very loud. One good thing is that two people can share one entree. People in Kansas seem to love huge portions of food at a fair price.
It seems people we know from out of town see the billboard and want to go there. We don't discourage them, but would much rather go somewhere else. I will say that it is nice that a locally-owned restaurant enjoys such popularity. They must be doing everything right to be voted the "best" in Northeast Kansas.
