New China Buffet opened in 1999, offering good food and service in a casual atmosphere. Its buffet has a variety of meal options, including salads, soup, chicken and traditional Chinese foods.



Nib's House of Coffee

2525 N. Topeka Blvd., Topeka

Since 2003, Nib's has offered gourmet coffees and good service in a bright family-owned atmosphere in North Topeka. Owners Nichole and Brady Yingling are north-city natives and opened the spot when they were barely out of high school. (12/12)



North Star Steakhouse

Oriental Express

From the same owners as Jade Garden, Oriental Express offers a second Asian restaurant featuring different Asian cuisines designed to suit any palette. Enjoy your favorite Chinese, Japanese and Korean dishes in this fast-food restaurant just off Wanamaker. Be surprised by the delicious tastes. This restaurant also features a sushi bar with well-trained sushi chefs.



Paisano's Ristorante

4043 S.W. 10th Street, Topeka

Paisano's offers southern Italian cuisine, which means its selections are built around homemade sauces often featuring seafood and are served in large portion sizes. The entrees are so good you must be careful that you don't fill up on the bottomless fresh salad, bread and made-from-scratch soups.

Paisano's also has an early bird special Monday through Friday. Entrees are half-price with the purchase of a drink for everyone who is seated by 11:30 a.m.

They make anything Bambino size on request, for the little ones.

Pepe & Chela's

1001 S.W. Tyler, Topeka

The Aliva family has been feeding Topekans since 1986. Everything is made fresh daily, from the chips to the chile rellenos -- with food made from both Avila family recipes and other dishes created to entice customers.

In May 2009, the restaurant completed a new outdoor patio, adding 26 seats where diners can enjoy the weather on nice days and evenings. The patio features outdoor music and lights.



Pizza Parlor

1919 NE Seward Ave., Topeka

An Oakland family-owned favorite since 1965, the Pizza Parlor features delicious pizza meals including the Big Bobby -- a 16 inch Super Supreme pizza that weighs 4.5 pounds before entering the oven!

Don't be fooled by the name "Pizza Parlor." Bill Domme serves just about anything. "If you can't find something on the menu to eat," he says, "you're not hungry." The menu includes hamburgers and ribs with homemade barbecue sauce. On Saturday, try a steak during the Steak Night Special. On Sunday, the Pizza Parlor serves breakfast 9 a.m. to noon and the regular menu noon to 7 p.m.

The kitchen closes at 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday.



Prairie Band Casino and Resort

12305 150th Road, Mayetta

Just 15 minutes north of Topeka, Prairie Band Casino, a mile west of US-75 highway, has three choices for your dining pleasure.

The Buffalo Grill is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering inexpensive soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers in the hotel lobby.

The Longhouse Buffet has breakfast, lunch and dinner for a more moderate cost.

For the big spender, there is Three Fires Steakhouse, which offers high stakes fine dining. Steaks are $19 to $36, a petit filet of bison is $38 and lobster tail is $30. There also are soups and salads for $4 to $5.

Puffy’s Steak and Ice House

215 Main Street, Maple Hill

Opened in June 1987, Puffy's has been voted among the best steakhouses in the area. With customers from all over northeast Kansas including Topeka, Manhattan, Council Grove and Emporia, Puffy's is family-owned and can seat more than 300 people. You can find more than steaks on the menu at Puffy's. Puffy's also has pork chops, shrimp, chicken and chicken fried steak, burgers and fries. A second location opened in 2008 in Alma, 123 W. 3rd, serving lunches daily.



Reed's Ringside Sports Bar & Grill

4731 N.W. Hunter's Ridge Circle, Topeka

Reed's stepped into the Topeka sports bar ring in 2005. The place is owned by former professional boxing brothers Derrick and Damon Reed, who make sure there's a great view of televised games and bouts just about anywhere inside Reed's. Don't forget to ask about discounts. Reed's offers plenty of deals, including for military, senior citizens, Seaman school staff and Goodyear workers.
