American Legion Post #1 Capitol 1 Restaurant

Capitol 1 Restaurant at Topeka's American Legion Post #1 is open to members (with ID card) on Friday evenings with a limited menu. The restaurant requires reservations 2 days in advance, but walk-in customers are welcome for sandwiches, which include hamburgers, ruebens, chicken strips and clubs. Specials change each Friday and include homemade mashed or baked potato, soup or salad and a roll. Chatterbox Tavern

The heart of the Chatterbox Tavern is an old railway box car that arrived in 1934. First-time bar owner Jackie Coolberth acquired the Chatterbox Tavern in August 2008 and by Thanksgiving she was hosting a free community dinner, which she repeated at Christmas.
