Chuckburger

Chuckburger has been an East Topeka tradition since 1955 and offers some of Topeka's finest burgers. Chuckburger's cooked-to-order burgers (including the signature Chuckburger) and fries (including the fabulous sweet potato fries) are served from the drive-through or at the walk-up window. Its hand-dipped ice creams, shakes and malts are especially popular.

Coyote Canyon

Coyote Canyon is a favorite stop among Topeka buffet-goers because steak is always on the buffet. But the place is also popular for nightly specials.

Monday features an Italian kitchen themed buffet. Tuesday is Family Night. On Wednesday, enjoy a Mexican Fiesta. On Thursday, try the Asian favorites at the Orient Express. Friday features a seafood feast buffet.

Saturday is barbecue night, and the Sunday "Family Dinner Table" menu caters to the family feast people have come to expect for a Midwestern Sunday meal. Don't miss the breakfast buffet from 8-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Dairy Queen/Orange Julius

Dairy Queen is an American original, and this Dairy Queen in 2009 married with Orange Julius to expand its icy-cold offerings.

DQ faithful will find the usual array of treats. Plus, workers here will scoop ice cream into fresh-made waffle cones or waffle bowls. Orange Julius fans will find yummy smoothies and, of course, the Orange Julius (although there are plenty more fruity flavors to try).

Customers can use the drive through or hop out of their cars and walk up to the order window. This location is mostly about cold treats, but it also offers hot dogs. (Updated 5.12.10)



El Mezcal Express

This newest El Mezcal location opened in the summer of 2009, featuring a drive-through window for those on the go. Jimmy Wong's Burrito Palace

After a night out with friends, hungry bar patrons in Topeka are often left with few choices for an after-hours bite outside of fast food. Chris Proffitt, Adam Proffitt and Steve Brock saw a need for a late-night snacking alternative for the bar crowd and opened Jimmy Wong's right smack in the middle of what is affectionately termed Topeka's Barmuda Triangle at the Gage Center Shopping Center.

Open late Thursday - Saturday, the tiny stand serves up a zany mix of Mexican and Asian cuisine. Fare includes hearty burritos, chips smothered in guac, queso or salsa and a tongue-in-cheek dessert called a misfortune cookie. The prices are affordable and the lively staff keeps the energy level high.



LaRocca's Pizza

It's been a couple of years since Topekans could enjoy LaRocca's Italian cuisine. Now, Vince and Irene LaRocca, are back and better than ever with LaRocca's Pizza at 21st and Urish. The new place, which opened on Jan. 12, 2010 in Urish Center, is a home-owned and operated pizza, pasta, subs and salads place with dine-in and carryout available.
